🛩️ You Can’t Build Wealth Without a Wingman

Happy Monday!

Here is an Idea, an Action, and a Question to consider this week.

Idea

Most agents tend to put themselves in silos. They try to fight battles on their own, solve problems internally, and generally just work solo. While this approach can work at certain times and for certain tasks, you want to be careful not to isolate yourself too much.

As anyone who’s seen Top Gun knows, having a wingman is vitally important to your survival as a fighter pilot. It’s the same in this industry: having your own “wingman,” someone who watches out for you, can really save you when you need it! If I were to take my F-35 into enemy territory by myself, I’d be putting myself at unnecessary risk. There’s nothing to gain from being a lone wolf in real estate either.

It’s not just one wingman either––you want a team (or formation) of people you can rely on, who trust you and can work like a well-oiled machine.

A team can also help focus your energy. In this business, you can feel like you’re working when you’re doing the real estate equivalent of rearranging your sock drawer. You’re busy but not producing anything of value. In the Air Force we say someone like this is “all thrust and no vector.” After all, if I had a jet with a ton of power but can’t control where it’s going, then all that power isn’t going to do me any good. You have to know how to use and direct your power, and that’s what having a good inner circle can help you do.

Here’s what my team looks like:

- My Core Four: Title/closing attorney, Lender, Insurance Agent, and Inspector

- My Supply Chain: Wholesalers/Flippers, Contractor/Handyman, and Vendors

- My Agent Allies: My fellow agents who I trust, rely on, and who can rely on me!

Action

Partner with a wingman! Select a fellow real estate agent whom you trust and who complements your skills. Schedule a quick, weekly 15-minute call to discuss current challenges and opportunities. During the call, exchange one key insight or useful piece of information that could help the other in their weekly transactions. This will build your Agent Ally network.

Question

Who makes up your team? Are you missing anyone on your roster?
