🛑 Stop Whining!
Happy Saturday!
Here is an Idea, an Action, and a Question to consider this week.
Idea
There are too many agents with a negative mindset, who actively seek opportunities to complain. Don’t get me wrong––it’s your God-given right to gripe about injustices or annoyances and to joke about life’s small catastrophes, but don’t let complaining become part of your persona. When you walk into a room, you don’t want everyone to think, “Oh, jeez. What are they going to whine about today?”
Strive instead to do the opposite: choose to exhibit happiness, joy, and positivity. That attitude will be infectious for those around you and attract successful people to you. When you walk into a room, everyone will be glad you’re there and want to connect with you. Your positivity will bring opportunities as well as investors and clients to work with you.
In his book The Gap and the Gain: The High Achievers’ Guide to Happiness and Success, author Dan Sullivan illustrates this mindset difference and explains how to change your attitude. In a nutshell, he tells us to avoid looking at the Gap, which is the difference between where we are now and where we want to be. Instead, focus on the Gain, which is the difference from where we started (wherever we choose that starting point to be) and where we are now.
For example, a lot of agents feel like they can’t experience happiness until they achieve their sales goals. Instead, tell yourself, “I’ve already sold twenty homes this year, and I’m stoked about my progress!”
Focusing on the Gain doesn’t mean that you aren’t striving for a certain goal, but it does mean that you won’t let your current situation result in a negative mindset, regardless of where you are in the journey to that goal.
Achieving a positive mindset is an ongoing process. The same concept applies to growth and happiness. It’s an endless journey. That may sound cliché, but it’s the truth. In short, love the life you have now, not the life that you expect to have in the future.
Action
Get "The Gap and the Gain" audiobook and listen to it while driving. Developing a positive mindset often requires insights from those who have more experience and knowledge.
Question
Are you a complainer or are you a problem-solver?
