I-A-Q #25: 🧐 Do You Focus on Failures, or Do You Find What’s Good?

Happy Monday!

Here is an Idea, an Action, and a Question to consider this week.

Idea

I was undergoing chemo. A good friend just died, and now that I was being medically discharged from the Air Force, I had no idea how I was going to financially support my wife and four young children.

To say things were bleak would’ve been an understatement.

In those moments, I made a conscious decision to stay positive, to believe that this pain and uncertainty were temporary and better days would be at my doorstep soon enough.

For this innate ability to embrace optimism, I’m indebted to my mother. I was blessed with a mom who instilled in me the potent power of positivity and taught me how to unearth the silver linings in the darkest clouds.

Despite suffering the heartache of losing two spouses, she chooses to wear her radiant smile each day. She illuminates our lives with her gratitude, a testament to her unshakeable belief that every circumstance, however grim, has something to be thankful for.

In real estate, we’re often in feast or famine, always navigating the highs and lows of the market. During the feasts, it’s easy to enjoy life and forget to prepare for the famine. In times of famine, you have a choice: will you focus on the failures or struggles, or will you seek to find the positive attributes about every moment life offers you?

I choose to see the good stuff.

Action

If you’re in a tough spot, call your most positive friend. Talk to them about what you’re going through. Tell them that you dialed their number because they’re the person who’s always able to find the good, even in the tough times.

Question

What brings you joy, and how can you inject more of it into your life?
